What is the Apocalypse?
The majority of people today when thinking of the word apocalypse, will conjure up images of destruction and strife. This is all down to a misunderstanding of the actual meaning. The english word apocalypse is taken from the Greek word "apokalypsis" which actually means "lifting of the veil" or "revelation". And this meaning fits with what the book of Revelation in the Bible is all about.
Revelation 1:1 ...'The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John.'
So the book of the "apocalypse" is all about the revelation of Christ Jesus. It isn't a book full of doom and gloom like so many people tend to believe. Sure, there are judgments contained within the book and it reveals what events are to take place upon this earth. But in essence, it is a book that reveals the awesome majesty of Jehovah and the coming everlasting kingdom of the KING OF KINGS, our Lord Jesus Christ.
The "apocalypse" is for our benefit so that we may know and prepare for what is to come.
To experience the apocalypse in your own life doesn't mean to be physically involved in world war III or some great disaster in the world. No. To experience the apocalypse in the TRUE sense of the word is to study Bible prophecy and gain understanding or insight to the events that are to take place. This is what Revelation 1:1 means. Those words "the revelation" comes from the Greek word "apokalypsis", which is where we get the word apocalypse from. So this is all about having an understanding of future events to take place, so that we can be prepared.
It's about knowing the truth. THAT is the "apocalypse".
Now I know that this makes it sound more "boring" from a worldly viewpoint, because we are so conditioned with what we see on the TV and through the movies. But it is more important to know the truth, than to just go along with what the world teaches. Because there is NOTHING that the leaders of this world can do to stop the "day of the Lord" from happening ... the "revealing" of Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God.
