IT'S GAME OVER FOR SUNDAY SABBATH KEEPING - IRREFUTABLE BIBLE PROOF REGARDING THE 7TH DAY SABBATH

The Bible evidence for the 7th day Sabbath (our Saturday today) is overwhelming, and yet so many professed Christians continue to reject the 7th day Sabbath, the holy Sabbath of our LORD God Jehovah, in favor of an invention of man (Sunday sabbath). The purpose of this page is to show the plain, irrefutable truth, proving that the 7th day Sabbath is STILL the holy day of God, set aside for all mankind, not just the Jews, and that Sunday sabbath has NOTHING to do with our heavenly Father, His Son, the gospel or new covenant.

First of all, let us confirm the truth regarding the 7th day Sabbath vs Sunday in connection with the two covenants, the old and new covenants. How was the first, or old covenant ratified (sealed)? It was sealed with blood:

Exodus 24:8 ...'And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord hath made with you concerning all these words.'

Same question with regards to the second, or new covenant. How was it ratified? We all know that the new covenant was ratified and sealed by the blood of Jesus Christ, which the following scripture confirms:

Matthew 26:28 ...'For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.'

Hebrews 10:29 ...'Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?'

Now think of a will and testament today. A will that is made by someone cannot go into effect until that person has died. While that person lives, he can make changes to that will and testament. But once he is dead, that will is sealed and cannot be changed. The same with Christ and the new covenant. It could not go into effect until the Lamb of God (Son of God) was slain and His blood shed for us, just as Paul confirms in Hebrews and Galatians:

Hebrews 9:16-17 ...'For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.'

Galatians 3:15 ...'Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.'

Do you see this important point? When Jesus died, the new covenant was sealed with His blood and no man could change anything, or take anything away, or add anything to the new covenant. It is impossible. Not even God Himself would change anything, or take anything away, or add anything to it, look:

Eccelsiastes 3:14 ...'I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.'

Deuteronomy 4:2 ...'Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.'

Proverbs 30:5-6 ...'Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.'

The fact that God sent His own Son to die for us, for our sin against His commands, proves beyond any doubt that God cannot and will not change any of His commandments. So let us ask two important questions regarding the Sabbath day:

1. Did Jesus change or abolish the 7th day Sabbath during His life on earth? The answer is NO.

2. When did Sunday 'sabbath' keeping come into effect? The answer is, AFTER the death of Christ.

Did Jesus say in Mark 2:27 that the 7th day Sabbath was going to be done away with or changed? No. He said the Sabbath was MADE FOR MAN (MANKIND). Did Jesus say in Matthew 12:8 that He was going to be Lord of the first day of the week (Sunday)? No, He said He is Lord of THE SABBATH DAY. Did Jesus warn the converted Christians in Matthew 24:20 to pray they need not flee Jerusalem during the coming destruction in AD70 on the first day of the week (Sunday)? No, He warned them to pray they need not flee on THE SABBATH DAY. Jesus did not change or abolish the 7th day Sabbath during His life on earth. So what does that mean concerning His death? It means the 7th day Sabbath, as per the 4th commandment and creation week, was forever SEALED and NOTHING could be taken from it, or added to it.

Please understand! NOTHING could be changed regarding the 4th commandment after the death of Christ. NOT ONE JOT OR TITTLE (Matthew 5:18). Because once Jesus sealed the new covenant with His blood, NOTHING could be changed, or added, or taken away.

Now when was Sunday keeping introduced? AFTER the cross, by man. AFTER Jesus already sealed the new covenant with His blood. Now even if you believe it was the disciples who introduced Sunday as the new Sabbath, which isn't true as you can see from our page DID THE DISCIPLES CHANGE THE SABBATH?; it matters not, because that change occurred AFTER Jesus sealed the new covenant with His blood and death on the cross. Therefore, that change BY MAN, not God, has nothing to do with Jesus, or the gospel, or the new covenant, and is a mere man made institution that God will NEVER recognize. The truth is, it wasn't the disciples who changed the Sabbath to Sunday, it was an act of the Roman Catholic Church centuries after Christ. The disciples were still observing the 7th day Sabbath many years after Christ, as Acts 16:13 confirms.

Please understand. Even if you put some New Testament verses together to try and show that the disciples gathered together on the first day of the week in support of a Sunday sabbath, it matters not. Because Jesus sealed the covenant at Calvary and NO ONE could change anything, not even the disciples. Which means it's game over for Sunday sabbath keeping.

If you still believe the disciples changed the Sabbath to Sunday, then please see our page DID THE DISCIPLES CHANGE THE SABBATH? for the truth on this.

Jesus never changed the ten commandments during His life on earth. He even responded to some people like the rich young ruler who asked what he must do to inherit eternal life, by pointing them to the ten commandments (Mark 10:19). Yes, Jesus taught us HOW to keep the ten commandments in spirit, not just the letter, but this doesn't do way with the commandment itself. I have heard many people say that they "keep the 4th commandment in spirit now, EVERY DAY." And they don't realise how silly a statement this is. How can you keep a commandment in spirit by BREAKING the specific commandment?! How can you keep the 7th day holy in spirit by ignoring the specfic command? Can we now steal from people, ignoring the specific command, but also at the same time keep that commandment in spirit? Can you ignore the 'letter' of the no stealing commandment, and yet keep it in spirit? Of course not. That is just plain silly. Keeping a commandment in spirit, as Jesus taught us, INCLUDES keeping the letter of it. It just means that we are not ONLY keeping the letter of it like the Pharisees did. For example, we are not just to not steal from people. We are to GIVE to people, helping those in need. Which is what the rich yound ruler did not understand. This is keeping the spirit of the law.

So the fact that Jesus taught the ten commandments and pointed people to them and never changed or abolished them, proves that the 7th day Sabbath as per the 4th commandment is part of the new covenant for ALL MANKIND - "the Sabbath was made FOR MAN" (Mark 2:27). And it also proves that Sunday keeping or no day keeping has no part of the new covenant.

So let us look at the original intention of God regarding the 7th day Sabbath. Did you know that the 4th commandment actually points back to creation week and CONFIRMS the 7th day of creation as THE SABBATH DAY? Take a look:

Exodus 20:8-11 ...'Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested THE SEVENTH DAY: wherefore the Lord blessed THE SABBATH DAY, and hallowed it.'

Do you see? God is pointing back to creation week, because the Sabbath commandment tells us who our God is. He is Creator of heaven and earth. And the Sabbath is a 'sign' between God and His true people, that they acknowledge the one true God. But look again. God not only points us back to creation week, He confirms in the 4th commandment that the seventh day of creation is the Sabbath day. Do you see? The 7th day Sabbath didn't start at Sinai. It was instituted at creation, and was made for all mankind, not just the Jews. There were no Jews in existence at the beginning.

Genesis 2:2-3 ...'And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.'

Mark 2:27 ...'The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath.'

When was the Sabbath 'MADE,' or as the original Greek says, 'to be, or come into existence'? Just look at creation week and the 4th commandment. We are told in Genesis 2:2-3 that God rested the seventh day and then blessed the 7th day and sanctified it, or set it apart for holy use. So the 7th day of the week was set apart for holy use right from creation week. And God also confirmed in the 4th commandment, as we stated above, that the 7th day of creation week IS THE SABBATH DAY. So when was the 7th day Sabbath 'made' or 'came into existence'? At creation. And Jesus confirmed it was made FOR MAN. He didn't say it was made for the Jews, because there were no Jews in existence when the Sabbath was 'made.' And that word 'man' in Mark 2:27 means 'mankind' in the original. But there were people in existence. Adam and Eve. This is why Jesus said the Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. Adam and Eve were created on day 6, BEFORE the Sabbath was instituted on day 7. Thus the Sabbath was 'made' for man - ALL MANKIND. Which is why God confirmed that even the stranger who wanted to join himself unto the Lord should keep the 7th day Sabbath:

Isaiah 56:3-8 ...'Neither let the son of the stranger, that hath joined himself to the Lord, speak, saying, The Lord hath utterly separated me from his people: neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree. For thus saith the Lord unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant; Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off. Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the Lord, to serve him, and to love the name of the Lord, to be his servants, EVERY ONE THAT KEEPETH THE SABBATH from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant; Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for ALL PEOPLE. The Lord God, which gathereth the outcasts of Israel saith, Yet will I gather others to him, beside those that are gathered unto him.'

Wow. Do you see? God didn't just institute the 7th day Sabbath for the Jews. He 'made' it for ALL MANKIND, as Jesus confirmed in Mark 2:27 and as the above verses confirm. Now think about this. If Adam and Eve did not sin, then the 7th day Sabbath would have continued for all eternity for ALL PEOPLE. And it WILL continue for all eternity for ALL of God's redeemed, as the following prophecy confirms:

Isaiah 66:22-23 ...'For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.'

What will we do every 'new moon' or every month on the new earth? Revelation 22:2 says that the tree of life will bare new fruit every month. So we will go and partake of the new fruit every month. But notice also, ALL FLESH shall go and worship God every Sabbath day on the new earth. This was God's original purpose for the 7th day Sabbath.

No argument for Sunday, or no day, can refute this truth. Our heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ have given us (all mankind), the 7th day Sabbath. It is the ONLY day of the week that has ever been blessed and sanctified. Nowhere in scripture is the first day of the week made holy like the 7th day (our Saturday). Jesus never changed or abolished it during His life on earth. And therefore when Jesus SEALED the new covenant with His blood on the cross, He forever sealed the 7th day Sabbath as God's eternal holy day for all mankind to keep. And we keep it in recognition of our allegiance to our Creator and Redeemer. Any deviation from this is NOT part of the gospel or new covenant, and is putting man in place of God. Sunday cannot be part of the new covenant. So who will you give your allegiance to today? Being faithful to God may well cause a split in family or friends. But remember, they cannot save you. Only God can.
