HISTORICAL NECESSITY OF THE THIRD ANGEL'S MESSAGE BY A.T.JONES
After the dark reign of the Papal Church of Rome, light began to break out through the Protestant Reformation. Through the likes of Luther, Zwingle, Wesley, etc., the light of justification by faith came to the forefront, and that God's grace is a free gift offered to all mankind. But instead of 'increasing in the knowledge of God' as Colossians 1:10 tells us, and growing in the light that Jesus Christ Himself gives us, much of Protestantism clung to their respective 'leaders' rather than to Jesus Christ. If new light came to them, and it differed from what, say, Luther taught, they would declare ... 'Luther did not teach this, therefore we will not accept it.'
Many different names, groups and denominations came about as a result - 'Conformists;' 'non-Conformists;' 'Congregationalists;' 'Puritans;' 'Lutherans;' 'Baptists;' 'Anabaptists;' etc., etc. And because no true gospel system of morality was brought to the forefront, much persecution arose between these different groups, with even death being pronounced upon individuals who would not yield to certain rites and doctrines. So, while light did come through the Protestant Reformation, many principles of the Roman Church were held onto, including Sunday 'sabbath' in opposition to God's 4th commandment.
Thus the need for God to bring the third angel's message - 'the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus' to light through the Advent Movement.
