IS THE TRINITY BIBLICAL?

"A philosophical idol is enthroned in the place of Jehovah; while the true God, as HE is revealed in his word, in Christ, and in the works of creation, is worshiped by but few." (The Spirit of Prophecy, Volume 4, p.399)

After truthfully and prayerfully reading this whole page, there is only one outcome you can arrive at. Now the question is - which is more important to you - your "church", or Jehovah and His truth? To begin with, take a look at the following quotes regarding the trinity doctrine.

"No doctrine is more fundamental or more emphasized in Freemasonry than that of the Trinity." (source)

"The mystery of the Trinity is the central doctrine of the Catholic Faith. Upon it are based all the other teachings of the church." (Handbook for Today's Catholic, p. 11)

"Our opponents sometimes claim that no belief should be held dogmatically which is not explicitly stated in scripture. But the Protestant Churches have themselves accepted such dogmas, as the Trinity, for which there is no such precise authority in the Gospels." (Graham Greene, [celebrated Catholic Author], Life Magazine, 30 Oct. 1950, p.51 - source)

"As fundamental errors, we might class with this counterfeit sabbath other errors which Protestants have brought away from the Catholic Church, such as sprinkling for baptism, the TRINITY, the conciousness of the dead and eternal life in misery. The mass who have held these fundamental errors, have doubtless done it ignorantly; but can it be supposed that the church of Christ will carry along with her these errors till the judgement scenes burst upon the world? We think not." (James White, Advent Review and Sabbath Herald, Sept. 12, 1854, vol. 6, no. 5, page 36.7)

So as you can see, the trinity is the 'central' doctrine of Freemasonry and also Catholicism, and has been accepted by virtually the whole of Christendom, and yet we will prove it does not come from the Bible, as Mr Greene correctly stated above. Instead it comes from Babylon. So if you are willing to let Jehovah teach you the truth, then you will see after reading through this page that the trinity teaching is in fact a false teaching. And not only a false teaching, but a dangerous one, because one of the main end time issues is to do with who we worship - This is serious friends!

Ephesians 1:17 ...'That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.'

One major flaw with the trinity doctrine is that the Bible never states ... "God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit". Not once will you find this statement in the Bible. You will never even find the terms "God the Son" and "God the Holy Spirit". These are not found in scripture anywhere! So who is God, according to the Bible? If we want to be a people of the Bible, then we need to stand upon what the scriptures say regarding God, not what the church leaders say. So what DOES the Bible say regarding God?

1 Corinthians 8:6 ...'But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; AND one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.'

John 17:1-3 ...'Father ... this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.'

1 Timothy 2:5 ...'For there is one God, AND one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.'

Philippians 2:11 ...'And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.'

Hebrews 9:24 ...'For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.'

Revelation 21:22-23 ...'And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.'

John 20:17 ...'Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.'

Did Jesus ever tell us that God is in '3 parts'? (We will deal with Matthew 28 later) ... Mark 12:28-30 ...'And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.' ... No, Jesus said our God is ONE Lord, the Father. Not three. Not one in three parts, but one! And who is that 'one God' according to Jesus and the apostles above? It is God the Father.

And think about it. If 1 Timothy 2:5 says that Jesus is the Mediator between the one God and man, then it means Jesus cannot be the one God Himself, as He is the Mediator between the one true God and mankind. This is basic logic. And how many beings are in the Godhead according to the above verses? TWO, not three. And just to confirm this even more, look at who the apostles always give praise and honour to in their writings:

Romans 1:7-8 ...'Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all.'

1 Corinthians 1:3-4 ...'Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ.'

Ephesians 1:3 ...'Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.'

Ephesians 6:23 ...'Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.'

James 1:1 ...'James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.'

2 Peter 1:2 ...'Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.'

2 John 1:3 ...'Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.'

'Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.' (1 Corinthians 1:3)

'Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,' (Galatians 1:3)

'Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.' (Ephesians 1:2)

'Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.' (Philippians 1:2)

'Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.' (Colossians 1:2)

'Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.' (1 Thessalonians 1:1)

The sample of verses above is an example of what is written right throughout the apostles writings in the Bible. Do you see who they are giving credit and worship to? They are giving credit to God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. They are not giving credit to any third person of the Godhead. Only two!. And who are they calling 'God'? THE FATHER. Remember, we are to use the WHOLE council of God, not just a couple of verses.

Important Point: The trinity teaching denies Jesus as the literal Son of God, because it teaches that Jesus is a self-existent, eternal God ALONGSIDE the Father, and not 'begotten' FROM the Father as a true Son. But please note, 1 John 2:22-23 says that he who 'denies the Father and SON' is antichrist. So this subject may be a lot more important than people think. John 3:16 ...'For God so loved the world, that he GAVE his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.' God truly sent His own Son to die for our sins! What LOVE!

John 16:27-28 ...'For the Father himself loveth you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. I came forth from the Father, AND am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.'

John 17:7-8 ...'Now they have known that all things whatsoever you have given me are of you. For I have given unto them the words which you gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from you, and they have believed that you did send me.'

Romans 8:3 ...'God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh.'

Do you see this amazing truth about Jesus being the literal Son of God? And no, He did not become the Son of God at His birth on this earth. They are not play acting. This is real friends, and the truth is clear for all who have eyes to see. Notice the clear order that Jesus is giving. He came forth from the Father and THEN the Father sent Jesus HIS SON, to this earth.

Proverbs 8:23-25 ...'I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth.'

"Through Solomon Christ declared: 'The Lord possessed Me in the beginning of His way, before His works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth ... When He gave to the sea His decree, that the waters should not pass His commandment; when He appointed the foundations of the earth; then I was by Him, as one brought up with Him; and I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him." (Signs of the Times, August 29, 1900 par. 14)

Micah 5:2 ...'But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.'

If you look at the original Hebrew for 'goings forth' and 'brought forth', you will see that these verses are saying Christ CAME OUT FROM somewhere, sometime in eternity past, before anything was created. And where did Christ 'come forth from' sometime in eternity past? Jesus confirms it Himself in John 16 and 17 above. He came out from God the Father as a true Son!

1 John 5:5 ...'Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?'

Proverbs 30:4 ...'Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, AND what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?'

"The dedication of the first-born had its origin in the earliest times. God had promised to give the First-born of heaven to save the sinner." (The Desire of Ages, p. 51)

LOOK: After Jesus rose from the dead and had His divine nature again, what did He say to Mary at the tomb? ... John 20:17 ...'Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.' ... Two things. First, Jesus, even in His divine nature, calls the Father, His GOD. And second, the Holy Spirit had not yet been sent. So why is Jesus only ascending to ONE being? Quite simply, because the Holy Spirit is not a separate being from the Father and Son.

But what about Isaiah 9:6 where Jesus is called 'the everlasting Father'? Well, what does that verse say? It says that Jesus 'SHALL be called' the everlasting Father. So this is talking about a FUTURE time. And what future time could that be referring to? When Jesus would become a 'Father' to us IN HUMANITY and the sacrifice He made on the cross. And what did Jesus become at the cross? 'the AUTHOR of eternal life' (Hebrews 5:9), and the 'CAPTAIN of our salvation' (Hebrews 2:10). So yes, Jesus is our 'Father' of eternal life, because as the Bible says, God has 'put all things under His feet' (Hebrews 2:8). And Jesus declares that we are the 'children' whom God the Father has given to Jesus (Hebrews 2:13). So this prophecy in Isaiah is foretelling a time when Jesus would become a 'Father' to us in our human nature. But He is not God the Father. The Bible is so clear on this.

Take a look at this quote ... "However much a shepherd may love his sheep, he loves his sons and daughters more. Jesus is not only our shepherd; He is our 'everlasting Father.' And He says, 'I know Mine own, and Mine own know Me, even as the Father knoweth Me, and I know the Father.' John 10:14, 15, R. V. What a statement is this!--the only-begotten Son, He who is in the bosom of the Father, He whom God has declared to be 'the Man that is My fellow' (Zech. 13:7), --the communion between Him and the eternal God is taken to represent the communion between Christ and His children on the earth! Because we are the gift of His Father, and the reward of His work, Jesus loves us. He loves us as His children." (Desire of Ages, p.483)

Can you see what is being said above? Jesus as our 'Father' is a REPRESENTATION of the relationship between Himself and His Father which is God the Father, the one true God. So we can see that Isaiah 9:6 is not prophesying that Jesus 'IS' the Father. It is prophesying that Jesus would 'become' a 'Father' to us in our humanity. Like a Father-figure to us.

Here we are interested in what the WHOLE council of God says, not just taking one or two verses here and there and building a false doctrine on them. Also, rather than just follow what the majority of people believe, we follow what God teaches and will use the WHOLE council of God as our authority.

Basic Logic: Looking at the original Hebrew and Greek words reveal clear truth in many instances which the English translation doesn't reveal. Take a look at this ... 'The Lord God' or 'God the Father' in the original Hebrew or Greek means 'GOD, DEITY' and 'FATHER'. 'Jesus Christ' in the original Greek means 'God is salvation' and 'THE ANOINTED ONE OF GOD', pointing to Jesus as Messiah and the Son of God. So we have GOD and the SON OF GOD. Now look at the original meaning of 'Holy Spirit/Ghost'. In both the Hebrew and Greek it means 'BREATH, MIND, CHARACTER'. Which means what? LIFE! So the Spirit OF God, is the LIFE of God, which He gives to us. Look at what Job and the Psalmist confirmed:

Job 33:4 ...'The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.'

Psalms 33:6,9 ...'By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood.'

Is breath a being? Is life a being? No, these are attributes OF someone, not a being in itself. In the original Hebrew and Greek, the scriptures clearly revealed that there are two literal divine beings - God the Father and Jesus Christ His Son. And the Spirit is the 'breath, mind and character' (LIFE) OF SOMEONE. Not a literal being itself. And what is the Spirit the 'breath, mind and character' of? It's the breath, mind and character (LIFE) OF GOD the Father and OF Jesus. It is THEIR Spirit. THEIR LIFE!

Would you agree that the Godhead or so called 'trinity' doctrine is a 'pillar' of the church? It is one of the foundational teachings which you will find in the fundamental beliefs of churches around the world. Now a fundamental doctrine MUST be clearly supported by the Old Testament, otherwise there is no foundation to it. Let me give you an example. The doctrine of Jesus Christ as Saviour of the world. The doctrine of the sabbath, the law of God, the state of the dead, the truth about hell, and so on, are ALL clearly supported by the Old Testament. So what about the 'trinity'? The Old Testament is SILENT!! Not one verse in the Old Testament supports the trinity teaching!

Is the word "Trinity" found anywhere in the Bible? No, it's not. Is the phrase "God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit" in the Bible? No. So what does the Bible say?

THE FATHER: - 'God the Father' 13 times; 'The most high God' 11 times; 'The Highest' 6 times; 'The only true God' 1 time.

JESUS CHRIST: - 'Son of God' 48 times; 'only begotten' 6 times; God's 'Holy Child' 2 times; His 'firstborn' 4 times.

HOLY SPIRIT: - 'Spirit of God' 26 times; 'God's Spirit' 9 times; 'Thy Spirit' 4 times; 'Spirit of your Father' 1 time; 'Spirit of Christ' 2 times.

TRINITARIAN: - 'God the Holy Spirit' 0 times; 'God the Son' 0 times; 'God in three persons' 0 times; 'trinity' or 'triune God' 0 times.

So we have a huge problem with this trinity teaching in that it is not found anywhere in the Old Testament, and yet it is known as a 'pillar' of the Christian faith. I'm not just talking about the word 'trinity', I'm talking about the concept of there being three beings in the Godhead. Nowhere in the Old Testament is this idea supported. Now as we mentioned above, some people use the verse in Genesis where God says "let us make man in our image." to support the trinity. But this is pure clutching at straws, because the 'us' in that verse does not mean three people. The word 'Elohiym' refers to a position of greatness, not the number 3. And anyway, since when did the word 'plural' HAVE to mean 3? Why not 4 or 5. Why not 100? Do we have 100 gods? No, we have to be Biblical and logical when looking at this. Elohiym refers to TWO people, God the Father and Jesus Christ His Son. That is the 'us'. And that is Biblical, LOOK:

John 1:1-3 ...'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with [THE] God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.'

"After the earth was created, and the beasts upon it, the Father and Son carried out their purpose, which was designed before the fall of Satan, to make man in their own image. They had wrought together in the creation of the earth and every living thing upon it. And now God says to his Son, Let us make man in our image." (Spiritual Gifts, Vol.3, p.33)

Please Note: Many today say that Arius believed Jesus was a created being. This is a false charge laid against anyone who rejects the trinity god teaching, just like Arius did. PLEASE SEE THIS PAGE of ours, which shows that Arius in fact believed Christ was begotten of God, NOT created.

To truly find out who or what the Holy Spirit is, we need to use the WHOLE council of God and not just a few verses like many people do. So what does the Bible say about the Holy Spirit? Let's start off with the Old Testament. But before we do, let me make an important point. Any major doctrine we teach MUST be supported by the Old Testament. We cannot teach a doctrine that is only based on a couple of verses in the New Testament. So let us look at a selection of Old Testament verses:

Genesis 1:2 ...'And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.'

Joel 2:28 ...'And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.'

Genesis 41:38 ...'And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?'

1 Samuel 10:10 ...'And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.'

Psalm 51:11 ...'Cast me not away from Thy presence; and take not Thy Holy Spirit away from me.'

Isaiah 63:11-12 ...'Where is he that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of his flock? where is he that put His Holy Spirit WITHIN him? That led them by the right hand of Moses with his glorious arm, dividing the water before them, to make himself an everlasting name?'

Now if you search right throughout the Old Testament, you will not find one reference to a third being of the Godhead. What you will find are lots of references to God the Father and Jesus Christ whom He was to send to save us. ALL the references to the Holy Spirit are revealed as the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit being God the Father's own Spirit, which He GAVE to His Son Jesus - Isaiah 42:1 being an example ... "Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.".

Now the New Testament and inspiration supports and clarifies what the Old Testament teaches even further and shows us clearly and specifically that the Holy Spirit is also the Spirit of Christ.

Romans 8:9 ...'But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.'

1 Peter 1:11 ...'Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was IN them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.'

Galatians 4:6 ...'And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.'

"The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God; it is also the Spirit of Christ. It is that divine, mysterious emanation through which they carry forward their great and infinite work." (Uriah Smith, GC Bulletin, March 18, 1891, pp. 146,147)

"Here we find that the Holy Spirit is both the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Christ." (E. J. Waggoner, Christ and His Righteousness, p. 23, 1890)

"We learn from this language that when we speak of the Spirit of God we are really speaking of his presence and power." (J. N. Loughborough, Review and Herald, September 20, 1898)

"The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ, which is sent to all men to give them sufficiency, that through His grace we might be complete in Him." (Ellen G. White, 14 Manuscript Releases, p. 84)

"While Jesus ministers in the sanctuary above, He is still by His Spirit the minister of the church on earth. He is withdrawn from the eye of sense, but His parting promise is fulfilled, 'Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.' Matt. 28:20. While He delegates His power to inferior ministers, His energizing presence is still with His church." (Ellen G. White, Desire of Ages, p. 166)

Notice what the apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2:11 ...'For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is IN him? even so, the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.' ... So Paul is saying that JUST AS no man knows us apart from our OWN spirit INSIDE us, likewise no man knows God, but God's own Spirit which is ALSO in Him. Paul is saying it's the same concept. God's Holy Spirit is not another being, but God's own Spirit.

Matthew and Luke talk about a certain event. Look at what they both say ... Luke 12:11-12 ...'take you no thought how or what thing you shall answer, or what you shall say: For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what you ought to say.' Now we will read the same account recorded by Matthew, but notice the words he used to describe the Holy Spirit. Matthew 10:19-20 ...'take no thought how or what you shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what you shall speak. For it is not you that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.' So Luke says the Holy Spirit would teach us, but Matthew reveals that 'Spirit' to simply be the Spirit of God the Father.

Now take a look at Jesus' own words ... John 14:10 ...'Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.' You see? Jesus Christ and the Father. And it is THE FATHER that dwells in Jesus and in us. In other words, the Spirit of the Father that dwells in us.

Also, take a look at what Jesus said as He prayed to the Father ... John 17:21 ...'That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.' Where is this so called third person of the trinity? Jesus is clearly revealing the Godhead as the Father and Son, that's it! No third equal divine being, just the Father and Son. And they are one in spirit and mind, just like the believers are one in spirit and mind.

So it wasn't a 'third being' of the Godhead that dwelt in God's people. It was the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Christ, which is the same Spirit, as they share the same One Spirit. See the following verses which confirms this:

Ephesian 4:4 ...'There is one body, and one Spirit, even as you are called in one hope of your calling.'

1 Corinthians 12:13 ...'For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.'

Ephesian 2:18 ...'For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.'

"They have one God and one Saviour; and one Spirit--THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST--is to bring unity into their ranks." (Testimonies, Vol.9 p.189)

Let's take a look at some of the verses used to support this mainstream trinity doctrine, that there are three beings of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit being a separate divine being. You may be surprised at the simple Bible truth regarding this.

VERSE USED - Matthew 28:19 ...'Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.'

Many people miss the context of this verse and they miss the all important point that Jesus is the focus. Let us look at the context:

Matthew 28:18-20 ...'And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.'

Do you see what the focus is? That 'all power is given unto Jesus' and that HE is the one who would be with us until the end. And what 'power' did Jesus receive? Before He ascended to heaven, Jesus said in Luke 24:49 that He would 'send the promise of His Father' and the disciples would be endued with 'POWER from on high.' Then in Acts 2:32-33 we see what that promise and power was that Jesus received to 'POUR OUT HIMSELF' - the Holy Spirit! This is why all baptisms recorded in the New Testament were performed in the name of Jesus only. Because the focus of Matthew 28:18-20 is JESUS. God the Father was to GIVE all power to Jesus, which included the Holy Spirit. And then as Acts 2:32-33 confirmed, Jesus poured out the Holy Spirit HIMSELF. Which is why Jesus said ... 'I will be with you always.' Jesus was to come HIMSELF in the Spirit of His Father - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:38 ...'Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ.'

Acts 8:16 ...'For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.'

Acts 8:36-38 ...'What doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.'

Acts 10:48 ...'And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.'

Acts 19:5 ...'When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.'

Acts 22:16 ...'And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.'

Romans 6:3 ...'Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?'

Do you see? Also, 1 John 2:23 confirms that ...'he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.' ... Because if you acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God, then you also automatically have the Father. And as we learned above, the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ and the Father. It's THEIR Spirit. So by baptizing in Jesus' name only, like the disciples did, you are automatically acknowledging the Father, Son and THEIR Spirit!

VERSE USED - John 14:16 ...'And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.'

Now just because Jesus said the Father would send 'ANOTHER (allos) Comforter', people automatically take this to mean a different being from Christ. But they fail to realize TWO VITAL points regarding this. One is regarding the way John wrote, and second is how Jesus spoke about Himself in the 'third person'. First, let us see how John used this word 'ANOTHER' (allos) in another passage he writes:

John 18:15-16...'And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did ANOTHER (allos) DISCIPLE: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest. But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that OTHER (allos) disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.'

The Greek word translated as ANOTHER and OTHER in John 18 above, is 'ALLOS'. The same Greek word used in speaking of 'ANOTHER' Comforter in John 14. Now remember, John is writing this himself, and guess who John is referring to as the 'ANOTHER' disciple? HIMSELF! It is John who was that 'OTHER' disciple and yet he is referring to HIMSELF - in the 'third person'. This is how John writes, as you can see in John 13:23-25 and John 21:23-24.

And what about Jesus speaking? What many don't realize is that Jesus referred to HIMSELF as a 'third person' many times. Take a look ... John 17:1-2 ...'Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.' Do you see? Jesus spoke about HIMSELF in a 'third person'. So Jesus talking about the comforter as 'another' Comforter and 'he', is no proof at all that the comforter would be another person. In fact, if you look at these verses also - John 4:10, John 6:27, Matthew 20:28, John 5:19, you will see that Jesus on many occasions referred to HIMSELF in the 'third person'. And this is also how John wrote, speaking of the SAME PERSON.

IMPORTANT NOTE: - In Mark 16:12 it reads ...'After that he appeared in ANOTHER FORM unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country.' - Do not miss this point! This verse confirms that JESUS HIMSELF appeared to disciples in ANOTHER form. Which shows that Jesus could state the Comforter would be 'another', yet HIMSELF.

John 14:16-17 ...'And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless. I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.'

Do you see this amazing truth? The Holy Spirit had not been sent at this point, and yet Jesus said .. You know Him for He dwelleth with you! Then Jesus said .. I will not leave you comfortless, I WILL COME TO YOU. Jesus was talking about HIMSELF. He was talking about His Spirit that He would send. Would you like more verses to confirm that?:

Galatians 4:6 ...'And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.'

2 Corinthians 3:17 ...'Now the Lord is that Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.'

Jesus was saying He would send His own Spirit, which is the same Spirit as the Spirit of the Father, because they are one in spirit and mind! Have a really good think on John 14:16-17. Prayerfully think about it and the truth will shine forth!

John 7:39 ...'But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.' ... Why did Jesus need to be glorified before the Spirit could be sent? Because it is the Spirit of God the Father, which He was to anoint His Son with (Hebrews 1:8-9). God was to anoint His Son Jesus, with all power, so that Jesus could send His own divine Spirit to comfort us.

John 14:22-23 ...'Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.'

NOTE: The Greek word for 'comforter' is 'parakletos', which means 'intercessor, advocate, comforter'. If you take a look at 1 John 2:1 it says that Jesus Christ is our 'advocate'. And the Greek word used for advocate in this verse is the same 'parakletos' used for comforter in the other verses regarding the Spirit. 1 Timothy 2:5 also confirms we only have ONE mediator (advocate) with the Father, and that is Jesus Christ. So what was to be 'sent' as a comforter for us? The Spirit of Christ.

"The Saviour is our Comforter. This I have proved Him to be." (8MR 49)

"While Jesus ministers in the sanctuary above, He is still by His Spirit the minister of the church on earth. He is withdrawn from the eye of sense, but His parting promise is fulfilled, 'Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." (Desire of Ages, p.166)

"Let them study the seventeenth of John, and learn how to pray and how to live the prayer of Christ. He is the Comforter. He will abide in their hearts, making their joy full." (Ellen G. White, Review and Herald, January 27, 1903)

Speaking of Satan, Ellen White says ... "He has sought to shut Jesus from their view as the Comforter, as one who reproves, who warns, who admonishes them, saying, 'This is the way, walk ye in it." (Review and Herald, August 26, 1890)

"It is not essential for you to know and be able to define just what the Holy Spirit is. Christ tells us that the Holy Spirit is the Comforter, and the Comforter is the Holy Ghost, 'the Spirit of truth, which the Father shall send in My name.' 'I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him, for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.' [John 14:16, 17]. This refers to the omnipresence of the Spirit of Christ, called the Comforter." (Manuscript Releases 14, p.179)

Who does Revelation 1:13 say is walking amongst the candlesticks (churches)? A separate third being? No, it is Jesus Christ Himself!

VERSE USED - John 16:7-8 ...'Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.'

Many people look at these verses and say ... "you see! Jesus is talking about another person here, because Jesus says 'HIM' and 'HE' referring to the Holy Spirit." ... We have already shown above that when Jesus spoke about Himself, He did it in the 'third person'. Take a look at the following prayer from Jesus to His Father in heaven in John 17...

John 17:1-3 ...'Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.'

See these verses also showing that Jesus spoke about Himself in the 'third person' - John 4:10, John 6:27, Matthew 20:28, John 5:19

"They did not think that the subject of their conversation was walking by their side; FOR CHRIST REFERRED TO HIMSELF AS THOUGH HE WERE ANOTHER PERSON." (Desire of Ages, p.800)

Do you see? Jesus is speaking of Himself in a 'third person'. So John 16:7-8 is no proof at all of the Comforter as a 'third being'. Jesus is just speaking of Himself and HIS Spirit that He is going to send. And why does Jesus need to go to heaven first before He can send the Holy Spirit? If the Holy Spirit is another 'God' of the Godhead, then he could just come anytime himself. But the simple truth is, Jesus had to go to heaven first before sending the Spirit, because it is Christ's OWN Spirit that He receives from the Father. Therefore the Spirit could not come until Jesus was in heaven with the Father.

Now take a look at this ... John 15:26 ...'But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me.' ... That word 'proceedeth' in the original Greek means to literally COME OUT of someone. So the Spirit which Jesus was to send literally comes out of the Father. It is God's own Spirit!

VERSE USED - 1 John 5:7 ...'For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.'

There are many scholars who believe that this verse is not a valid inspired verse, which has been added by man. And it does actually contradict what Jesus said Himself in John 8:16-18, where He says that there are only TWO who bare witness - Himself and God the Father. But even if this verse is valid, of which I do not have the knowledge or authority to say either way, then we can easily explain it. Take a look at the following:

Who is 'THE FATHER'? - John 17:1-3, 1 Corinthians 8:6, John 20:17 and other verses tell us that the Father is the one true God.

Who is 'THE WORD'? - John 1, John 3:16, Romans 8:3 and other verses tell us that 'the Word' is the Son of God.

Who is 'THE HOLY SPIRIT'? - Acts 2:33, Revelation 5:6, Galatians 4:6 and other verses tell us that 'the Spirit' is the Spirit of Christ which He received from the Father. So 1 John 5:7, when looked at in light of the WHOLE council of God can be easily understood as saying the 'three' powers of heaven are, God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son of God, and THEIR divine Spirit.

Romans 8:10-16 ...'And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.'

I cannot stress this enough. We must not create a doctrine from only a few verses that actually contradict the rest of scripture.

'All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.' (Luke 10:22)

I would like to share three other very important Bible verses with you. John on Patmos was given a revelation of Jesus Christ and of the Father. And John is given a vision of the New Jerusalem which will reside on the new earth and of eternity. So this is a future vision of the new heaven and earth when this earth has passed away. Now take a look at what he sees:

Revelation 21:22-23 ...'And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty AND the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.'

Revelation 22:1 ...'And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God AND of the Lamb.'

Revelation 5:13 ...'And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, AND unto the Lamb for ever and ever.'

As you can clearly see, there is no third person of the Godhead in the New Jerusalem or that will be worshipped for eternity to come. Just God the Father and Jesus Christ 'the Lamb'. This confirms the clear Bible teaching that the Godhead consists of only God the Father and Jesus Christ His Son. Remember, we are to take the WHOLE council of God on any doctrine. Yes, if we take one or two verses on their own, we could believe that there are three beings in the Godhead. For instance, if we take a couple of verses on their own, the 'rapture' doctrine could seem true, or the doctrine of eternal hell fire for the lost could seem true. But we know that if the vast majority of the Bible contradicts the few verses, then there MUST be a misunderstanding of those few verses. And this applies to the false trinity doctrine.

If you look right throughout the Bible, you will see that God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ both have REAL NAMES. They both talk about each other in REAL PERSONAL WAYS. So if the Holy Spirit of God is a separate, divine, equal being of the Godhead, why doesn't it have a real personal name like the Father and Son? Think about it. What is the Spirit called? It's called THE Spirit or THE Holy Spirit. It's never given a name or title, it's just called THE Spirit, which isn't a name, it's just what it is. The word Holy isn't a name either, it's just describing what God's Spirit is, Holy. So if you think about this logically, with all the other Bible evidence, you can only come to one conclusion, that the Holy Spirit is not a separate person from God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. It must be the Spirit of God, or God's Spirit.

Romans 8:10-16 ...'And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. Do you see how the inspired Bible writers clearly revealed the Holy Spirit as being the Spirit of God and of Christ? It is God and Christ Jesus who dwells in us through THEIR SPIRIT, which is One Spirit that they share, not another divine being.

Now some say that because the Spirit can be grieved (Ephesians 4:30, Matthew 12:31) then it must have its own mind and be another separate deity of the Godhead. But again, this just goes against the vast Biblical evidence of what the Holy Spirit is. Think about it. How does God the Father and Jesus Christ prompt us and guide us? Through THEIR Holy Spirit. So if we turn away and reject the promptings of God's Spirit, then that is what we cannot be forgiven for. Look at the following interesting Bible verses:

Isaiah 40:13 ...'Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor has taught him?'

Romans 11:34 ...'For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counsellor?'

Can you see how Paul is quoting directly from Isaiah, and clearly understood the Spirit of the Lord to be the Mind of the Lord? They are one and the same thing. Which is why the original Hebrew and Greek words for 'Spirit' (ruwach and pneuma) right throughout the Bible points to the POWER of a being, ie 'breath, thoughts, mind', rather than an actual being itself.

If you take the WHOLE council of God regarding this doctrine of the trinity, you will find out that it is a false teaching. What is the Holy Spirit? It is the Spirit of God and of Christ Jesus. It is not another divine being in the Godhead, as there are only two, God the Father and His Son Christ Jesus our Lord and Saviour, which is confirmed in Luke 10 by Christ Jesus Himself:

Luke 10:22 ...'All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.'

Finally, take a look at the following inspired quote from a humble woman of God ... 'The King of the universe summoned the heavenly hosts before Him, that in their presence He might set forth the true position of His Son and show the relation He sustained to all created beings. The Son of God shared the Fathers throne, and the glory of the eternal, self-existent One encircled both. About the throne gathered the holy angels, a vast, unnumbered throng ... the most exalted angels, as ministers and subjects, rejoicing in the light that fell upon them from the presence of the Deity. Before the assembled inhabitants of heaven the King declared that none but Christ, the Only Begotten of God, could fully enter into His purposes, and to Him it was committed to execute the mighty counsels of His will. The Son of God had wrought the Father's will in the creation of all the hosts of heaven; and to Him, as well as to God, their homage and allegiance were due.' (Patriarchs and Prophets, p.36)

"Satan was once an honored angel in heaven, next to Christ. His countenance, like those of the other angels, was mild and expressive of happiness. His forehead was high and broad, showing great intelligence. His form was perfect; his bearing noble and majestic. But when God said to His Son, 'Let us make man in our image,' Satan was jealous of Jesus." (Early Writings, p.145)

Do you see any third divine being of the Godhead above? No, there is only two!

John 17:3 ...'And this is eternal life, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.'

How did this trinity doctrine enter the Adventist church, when the pioneers clearly rejected it? We can thank a Mr LeRoy Froom for that. Who some claim was a Roman Catholic Jesuit infiltrate. Please see THIS VIDEO concerning LeRoy Froom.

Just look at what LeRoy Froom said concerning the Holy Spirit due to the sheer lack of support for the trinity in the writings of our pioneers ... "I was compelled to search out a score of valuable books written by men outside of our faith--those previously noted--for initial clues and suggestions." (Movement of Destiny, page 322) ... So LeRoy Froom went to the writings of the churches of Babylon for 'information' on the trinity! And he brought the teachings of Babylon into the Adventist church. Yet the truth is so clear if you have eyes to see.

Look at this VISION FROM GOD, written by Ellen Harmon in 1846 ... "And I saw those who rose up with Jesus send up their faith to Jesus in the Holiest, and praying, Father give us thy spirit. Then Jesus would breathe on them the Holy Ghost. In the breath was light, power and much love, joy and peace." (The Day Star, March 14, 1846, Par.1)

As already noted at the top of this page, we showed you that in Revelation 5, John sees a vision of the throne of God, with a Lamb that has 'seven eyes', which are the 'seven Spirits of God'. This is clearly a reference to the Holy Spirit that Jesus HAS to send to the world. And did you know that even the Seventh-day Adventist Commentary refers to those 'seven Spirits of God' as the Holy Spirit? The Commentary even cross references this with the Comforter in John 14 and 15! So the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ! Not a separate third being!

And what did Ellen White say about Revelation 5? ... "The fifth chapter of Revelation needs to be closely studied. It is of great importance to those who shall act a part in the work of God for these last days." (Ellen White, The General Conference Bulletin, 1st June, 1909)

We often hear Seventh-day Adventist leaders quote the few Ellen White quotes which state 'three persons' and 'three highest powers'. And they camp on these statements as if Ellen White had nothing else to say on this subject. They do the same as non Adventists who camp on the few quotes concerning 'hell' and 'the sabbath' and 'the law' etc. And ignore the vast other Biblical and Spirit of Prophecy quotes which confirm otherwise. But when you read the many other quotes from Ellen White (some you can see from the link below), you will clearly see that Ellen White was referring to the Holy Spirit being a 'personality' of Jesus, and NOT a separate literal being. Let's take a look at her quotes:

"we need to realize that the Holy Spirit, who is as much a person as God is a person, is WALKING through these grounds, UNSEEN by human eyes; that the Lord God is our Keeper and Helper. He hears every word we utter and knows every thought of the mind." (Ellen G. White, Sermons and Talks Volume 2, pp. 136-137, 1899)

So who exactly is this 'UNSEEN PERSON WALKING' on earth with us?

"CHRIST WALKS UNSEEN through our streets. With messages of mercy He comes to our homes." (Ellen G. White, The Ministry of Healing, p. 107)

"How few realize that JESUS, UNSEEN, is WALKING by their side! How ashamed many would be to hear His voice speaking to them, and to know that He heard all their foolish, common talk!" (Ellen G. White, 14 MR 125.3)

It is Jesus, through HIS Spirit whom is unseen and walking by our sides on earth!

"The prince of the power of evil can only be held in check by the power of God in the third person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit." - (Special Testimonies, Series A, No. 10, p. 37, 1897) - Evangelism p. 617

Who is this 'third person' who can help us overcome sin and hold evil in check?

"There is no power in you apart from CHRIST, but it is your privilege to have Christ abiding in your heart by faith, and HE can OVERCOME SIN in you, when you cooperate with His efforts." (Ellen G. White, Our High Calling, 76.5)

"When trials overshadow the soul, remember the words of Christ, remember that He is an unseen presence in the person of the Holy Spirit." - (E.G. White, DG 185.2, 1897)

"With HIS Spirit, CHRIST sends a reconciling influence and a power that TAKES away SIN." (Ellen G. White, Review and Herald, May 19, 1904)

"The words that I speak unto you, they are SPIRIT, and they are life (John 6:57, 63). Christ is not here referring to His doctrine, but to HIS person, the divinity of His character." (1 Selected Messages, p.249)

"This is our work for this time, to open the door to Jesus, and HE will so fill the soul that there will be no room for self and selfishness ... We want that complete and perfect understanding which the Lord alone can give. It is not safe to catch the spirit from another. We want the Holy Spirit, which is Jesus Christ." (Letter 66, April 10, 1894, par.17-18)

"In giving His commission to His followers, Christ did not tell them they would be left alone. He assured them that He would be near them. He spoke of His Omnipresence in a special way. Go to all nations, He said. Go, to the farthest portion of the habitable globe, but know that My presence will be there. Labor in faith and confidence, for the time will never come when I shall forsake you." (Ms138, 1897 (December 2, 1897) par. 21)

"Christ took human nature that men might be one with Him as He is one with the Father, that God may love man as He loves His only-begotten Son, that men may be partakers of the divine nature, and be complete in Him. The Holy Spirit, which proceeds FROM the only-begotten Son of God, binds the human agent, body, soul, and spirit, to the perfect, divine-human nature of Christ. This union is represented by the union of the vine and the branches. Finite man is united to the manhood of Christ. Through faith human nature is assimilated with Christ's nature. We are made one with God in Christ." (Selected Messages 1, p.250)

"The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ, which is sent to all men to give them sufficiency, that through His grace we might be complete in Him." - (E.G. White, 14 Manuscript Releases, p. 84)

"They have one God and one Saviour; and one Spirit--THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST--is to bring unity into their ranks." (Testimonies, Vol.9 p.189)

"Cumbered with humanity, Christ could not be in every place personally; therefore it was altogether for their advantage that He should leave them, go to His father, and send the Holy Spirit to be His successor on earth. The Holy Spirit is Himself divested of the personality of humanity and independent thereof. He would represent Himself as present in all places by His Holy Spirit, as the Omnipresent." (Manuscript Releases, vol.14, p.23)

"He [Jesus] gives them His Holy Spirit, the manifestation of His presence and favor." - (E.G. White, 9T 230.3, 1909)

So if we put these quotes together, rather than taking one on it's own, we are able to gain a clear understanding of what Mrs White actually meant. That the 'third person' of the Godhead is in fact the 'personality and presence' of Jesus Christ through HIS Spirit. And NOT a separate physical being. Ellen White sent letters to Dr. Kellogg due to his 'new' belief concerning the Godhead and support for the trinity especially. Look at what she said ....

'You are not definitely clear on the personality of God, which is everything to us as a people. You have virtually destroyed the Lord God Himself.' (Ellen G. White, Letter 300, 1903)

'Your ideas are so mystical that they are destructive to the real substance, and the minds of some are becoming confused in regard to the foundation of our faith. If you allow your mind to become thus diverted, you will give a wrong mold to the work that has made us what we are - Seventh-day Adventists.' (Ellen G. White, Letter 52, 1903)

And let's back this up from two of our other pioneers ...

'The doctrine of the Trinity which was established in the church by the council of Nice, A.D. 325. This doctrine destroys the personality of God, and his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.' (J.N. Andrews, Review and Herald, March 6, 1855, p. 185)

'Here we might mention the Trinity, which does away [with] the personality of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ.' (James White, Review and Herald, December 11, 1855)

"The Father and the Son alone are to be exalted." - (E.G. White, The Youth's Instructor, July 7, 1898)

"Truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ." (1 John 1:3)
